Wireframing

UX research and wireframe design for a connected climate-control app, bringing clearer guidance to device setup, weekly scheduling, and everyday use.

OVERVIEW

One app for a connected home. Enetech is a connected ecosystem for heating, cooling, ventilation, and indoor air quality. Its mobile app brings different device families into one experience, allowing people to manage their home’s climate from a single place.

At Solhea, I worked on the UX of the existing Enetech experience. My contribution covered market and competitor research, a review using Nielsen’s 10 usability heuristics, and wireframe proposals for key mobile flows.

CHALLENGE

The app needed to support devices with different functions while keeping everyday tasks understandable. Setting a temperature, building a weekly schedule, or checking a connection should not require users to understand the system behind it.

My review highlighted opportunities to make device status more visible, explain unfamiliar modes, and provide clearer guidance during setup and scheduling.

COMPETITOR ANALYSIS

I reviewed competing apps to compare how they introduce devices and guide users through setup. A closer look at Daikin Onecta, Bosch Smart Home, and ViCare revealed different priorities: visual product identification, direct access to scanning, and preparation before pairing.

These observations informed a setup proposal with preparation guidance, a prominent QR option, and a manual alternative when scanning is unavailable.

HEURISTIC EVALUATION

I assessed the existing flows using Nielsen’s 10 usability heuristics, reviewing areas including login, device registration, room control, scheduling, and shared access.

The review identified opportunities to clarify connection status, explain operating modes, support repeated scheduling tasks, and provide more guidance around inputs and setup.

DEVICE SETUP

I proposed a setup flow that explains what users need before they begin, offers QR scanning alongside manual entry, and provides feedback as they progress.

The flow also considers unsuccessful attempts. When a QR code cannot be recognised, users can review suggested fixes, retry scanning, or continue manually.

SCHEDULING

Scheduling was a key focus of the redesign. I explored a weekly timeline that makes temperature periods visible and allows users to add or edit scheduled actions.

To support recurring routines, I included options to copy a day’s schedule and apply it to other devices. The aim was to reduce repeated setup while keeping the scope of each change clear.

SCHEDULING EDGE CASES

A new time period can overlap with an existing schedule. I designed a conflict state that explains the overlap and gives users options to replace the existing period, edit the schedule, or cancel.

DEVICE STATUS & CONTROLS

The proposed device views bring connectivity, current temperature, and target temperature closer to the controls they relate to. Contextual mode descriptions help explain the available options without requiring users to leave the screen.

Device and notification views also surface connection issues and maintenance messages, giving users a clearer starting point when something needs attention.

SHARED ACCESS

I explored invitation and permission flows for shared home control. The wireframes let an owner choose whether a member can control devices, edit schedules, view consumption, or manage other members. Separate invitation states make it possible to review pending, accepted, and expired invitations.

REFLECTION

This project reinforced the importance of what happens around a control: the preparation before setup, the explanation before replacing a schedule, and the feedback after a change. In a connected product, these moments help people understand both the interface and the device behind it.
